Shelley’s Pharmacy was taken over in May 2021 by a new team chaired by pharmacist, Muhammad Zaheer, who explains: “Despite initial pressures of turning a rundown pharmacy into a thriving point of contact, the pharmacy team understood the importance of Covid vaccine delivery.

“We were able to successfully get the contract for the Covid-19 vaccination in August 2021 and our track record demonstrates both the success in implementation as well as being able to target hard-to-reach communities (thus reducing health inequalities).”

Indeed, the teams’ hard work paid off as they have provided Covid vaccinations for over 15,000 patients in the last year as well as 2,000 flu jabs. “This was undertaken whilst also developing our NHS dispensing service, which now stands at an average of 9,000 items per month,” adds Muhammad. Vaccinations are not the only services the pharmacy offer. The team also do CPCS referral, microsuction and private blood test services to name a few. In particular, they have successfully built an NHS ABPM service. 

“The team provide ABPM services – starting with one ABPM which then led to purchasing five ABPM monitors to satisfy the growing demand from our local professional partners,” says Muhammad. “This has resulted in conducting 50-60 consultations per month.”

The judges were particularly impressed by how well the team have managed to revive Shelley’s Pharmacy. “In new hands, this pharmacy has restored faith in community pharmacy by increasing what they offer to an extremely high standard,” says RoE judge and Right Medicine Pharmacy COO, Richard Stephenson.
